Smart Gate Access Skid: Solar-Powered Security for All Gates

Smart Gate Access Skid: Solar-Powered Security for All Gates

Oil field gates are often miles from the nearest power line and the nearest person. That makes them hard to manage. Who came through this morning? Was that truck supposed to be there? Is someone waiting at the gate right now? Without eyes on site, the answer is usually a phone call, a drive out, or a guess.

The Quail Solutions Smart Gate Access Skid fixes that. It is a self-contained, solar-powered system that sets up at the gate and gives you access control, video verification and nighttime deterrence, all managed from your phone or computer.

What Is a Gate Access Skid?

A skid is a compact, ground-mounted base that holds everything the system needs: solar panels, batteries, the mast, cameras, lights and the connection to the cloud. Because it brings its own power, there is no trenching, no utility hookup and no generator to refuel. We set it next to the gate, connect the gate hardware, and the site is live.

When the job moves or the lease changes, the skid can move with it.

What's Included

  • Cloud gateway – connects the whole system so you can manage it remotely

  • License plate recognition (LPR) camera – captures the plate of every vehicle that comes through

  • Two video intercoms – for PIN entry and two-way video calls at the gate

  • PTZ camera – pans, tilts and zooms to cover the gate, the road and the surrounding area

  • Two 70-watt LED lights – turn on automatically at night when a vehicle or person is detected

  • Gate hardware – secure latch and integrated control box mounted on the gate

How Access Works at the Gate

Approved Companies Use Their Own PIN

Every approved company is set up in the system with its own unique PIN. When a driver pulls up, they enter their company's code at the intercom and the gate opens. Each entry is logged and tied to camera footage and the vehicle's license plate, so you always know which company came through and when.

Everyone Else Calls Dispatch

If a visitor isn't in the system, they don't get in on their own. They press the call button on the video intercom, which rings straight to your office. Your team sees who is at the gate, talks to them, and decides whether to open it remotely.

Optional: Quail Video Intercom Dispatch

Don't want your office handling gate calls? Add our video intercom dispatch service. Visitors call a Quail Solutions dispatch number shown on the intercom screen, and our team answers. We verify the visitor and log their license plate, name and company, so you get a complete record without lifting a finger.

Nighttime Deterrence

At night, the LED lights switch on the moment a vehicle or person approaches. That stops a lot of trouble before it starts and gives the cameras a clear picture when it matters most.

Key Benefits

  • Know who comes and goes – every PIN entry, plate and video event is on record

  • Company-level accountability – unique PINs show exactly which company entered

  • No drive out to open the gate – talk to visitors and let them in remotely

  • Hand off gate calls – optional Quail dispatch logs visitors for you

  • Deter theft and trespassing – motion-activated lighting and visible cameras

  • No power needed – solar-powered and built for remote, off-grid locations

Who It's For

The Smart Gate Access Skid is built for oil and gas operators, but it works anywhere a remote gate needs control and visibility:

  • Oil field leases and pad sites

  • Pipeline and midstream yards

  • Ranch and agricultural gates

  • Construction and laydown yards

  • Equipment storage and remote facilities
